Meet Benjamin Franklin
written by Maggi Scarf, illustrated by Harry Beckhoff
Ben was born on January 17, 1706 in England. He married Deborah Read. Ben made a newspaper called ''The Pennsylvania Gazette.''
Chapter 9 tells about how Benjamin Franklin tamed lightning. He tamed it by flying a kite high in the sky during a storm. The kite had a cotton string which had a key attached to it. Tied before the key was a piece of silk. Ben waited. Tick, tock went his pocket-watch. When Ben reached out to touch the key, he got shocked!
Franklin also helped make the Declaration of Independence by helping make corrections.
Benjamin Franklin died April 17,1790, in Philadelphia. He was 84 years old when he died. He was buried in the cemetary of Christ Church. You can visit Christ Church and see his grave.
I think that I like Benjamin Franklin because he was smart and thought of some pretty brilliant things. We even went to see his grave and saw Christ Church.
