My Book Report on Charlotte's Web

I read the book Charlotte's Web. It's a cute book about a spider that saved a pig's life. The spider's name is Charlotte. The way Charlotte saved Wilbur's life (Wilbur is the pig) is she tricked the people that owned the pig by writing on her web. She saved him from the humans having him for Christmas dinner.

The first time she wrote on her web, she wrote SOME PIG. The second time Charlotte wrote TERRIFIC. The third time she wrote RADIANT.Then, Charlotte, Wilbur, and Templeton (the rat) went to the county fair. At the fair Wilbur got to win a medal. Sadly, Charlotte died at the fair. She had eggs before she died, so back at the barn Wilbur would have friends.

When the eggs hatched, 412 of the baby spiders left, but three stayed. Wilbur named the three of them Joy, Arenea, and Nellie.

My Dream

I dreamt I was in the middle of a snowstorm. I was climbing up Mt. Everest .My only warmth was a blanket and a pillow.I brought my pet panda , Mezzo. My friends Honor , Rachel,Julie and Anne were down at the bottom. I slept 4 times in my journey. At the top I took 15 pictures then headed back down. Instead of taking the hard way down, which was the way I up, I took the easy way down, which was basically snow, cold and a slope. When I met them at the bottom we went to an airport and went to my house in Colorado .

Tornado in the Summer [Fiction]

We were watching the radar on The Weather Channel.  Suddenly a voice interrupted.  "Tornado in Virginia!"  The radar changed.  The tornado was heading towards us!

Instead of hiding in the closet where the ornaments are (my idea), we lit the hurricane lamp and ran into the utility room.

I was scared.  It was dark and cold.  "Amanda," said Katey, "are you okay?"

"Yeah.  Sort of," I said.  "No, not really.  I'm scared."

"Why don't we turn on the lights?" asked Daddy.

"Where's the ... Ah, HA!" shouted Mommy.  The lights flickered on ... and went out.  There was a loud noise like a train running over us.

After about one minute, the sound went away.

"We're safe?  We're SAFE!" Katey yelled.

We came out of the utility room and went to the window.  Our yard was torn apart!  The trees were gone, the garage was gone, and everything else was safe.  Or so I thought.

Katey ran into Mommy's and Daddy's bathroom.  I ignored her until she said, "Well, there goes our pool!"

So soon we fixed everything up, but we couldn't drive any more because we didn't have a car!  But we survived.  Don't worry.

How to Live Out The Great Commandments

I, to live out the First Great Commandment better, will try to go to Confession more often, because I have not gone in a while. The reason is, the First Great Commandment states," Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind and with all thy strength." So I will also concentrate more in Mass, instead of letting my mind wander and think about games we have for our Wii,like Mario Kart and My Sims Kingdom and Wii Music.

The Second Great Commandment says, "Love thy neighbor as thyself." For that one I will be nicer to Amanda and try not to be bossy.

My Story of Soccer.

[Note from Mom: This is a spelling assignment.  The directions read:

Describe a game or sport you like to play with at least one other person.  Tell the rules and how you play and how you win.  Use as many ar words as you can.  You may illustrate the story if you wish.]

***************************************

The game of  soccer is simple. You are a warrior against the other team . You try to get the ball from the other team so that you can score goal. To score a goal ,when you're close enough kick as hard as you can. The goal is shaped like a GIANT rectangle and has a net behind it.  The soccer team I played for has two 15-minutes halves for the younger team. The target is to get more points [goals] than the other team before time runs out . I played soccer last Fall of 2008.

Housekeeping

I've set up a new header for this blog for the girls, and I'll be having them write some more this year for the blog.  Homeschooling is humming along even though we took a break from the heavy lifting parts during Advent.  We did Jesse Tree readings every day to outline the prophecies about the Messiah throughout the Old Testament, as well as the types of Christ that are presented throughout our salvation history.  And, naturally, we've read a lot.

Last year, we read two plays by the Bard: "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "The Taming of the Shrew."  We are going to dole out parts for "Romeo and Juliet" this week and begin reading that on Saturday.  (This was Amanda's request.  Next up will be "Hamlet," as requested by Kaitlyn.)  We've also watched movies of the plays, and we'll also check out some of the adaptations made.  For example, we watched The Quiet Man (John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara) when we finished "The Taming of the Shrew."  We'll also watch West Side Story after we read and watch "Romeo and Juliet."

Amanda is preparing for First Holy Communion, and has already received her First Confession and Penance.  The parish has three workshops for her that she is required to attend, and I might have her write in this space about the differences between what we do at home (Seton) and what they did at the parish.  I hate to downplay the religious education at the parish, but honestly, my girls don't learn much from it.  Seton's program is so thorough and deep that the parish materials are like a bit of fluffy icing on a great, big cake.  I pray that other parents supplement their children's Sunday school experience, too.  They miss so much!  (Then again, so did I, and I'm still amazed at how much I learn while teaching religion class to the girls.)

So, look for new writing here from the girls.  And soon!

The Bird Who Came Back in Spring

[Note from Mom: The assignment was to write a story about birds migrating back to our yard in the Spring.  This is Amanda's story, and the only thing I changed was spelling and paragraphs.  Well, and a few punctuation marks.]

One day John the bird was flying back to Virginia after the migration.  He was flying along when suddenly it started flurrying!  When he looked down he was in Virginia!  "It can't be Virginia!" he said. "Wait a sec!  It's spring!  It cannot be snowing!"

One of the bigger birds over heard him. "WHAT was that!?"  she said.

"uh... Nothing."

"I heard something from you."

"It was your imagination."

"No it was not."

"Yes."

"No."

"Yes!"

"No!"

"Stop fighting, you guys!" said John's mother with a laugh.

"I was..."

"She started..."

"I did no-"

"STOP!!!!" John's mother yelled.

"Oh, alright," said John.

"Well, all I was trying to know was what he said," said the other bird.

John's mother stared angrily at John.  "Was that all she was trying to know?"

"Yes," John said.

"Tell her what you said," John's mother said.

"What I said was it can't be Virginia!  Wait a sec!  It's spring!  It cannot be snowing!"

"Ooooohhh!" John's mother said.

Soon they landed.  Everyone ran and flew to different trees, made nests, and started to go to sleep.  Everyone but John and his mother; they were still flying.  Soon the two birds got to Pennsylvania.  They never found their family and friends.

The end.  Finis.  Fin.

Nellie, the Girl Miner

[Note from Mom: The assignment that is below was for Kaitlyn to write a story that included all ten of her spelling words, which were the vocabulary words in Lesson 7 of the Memoria Press Greek Mythology Workbook.  The underlined words were the ones she was required to use.  The story is 100% original.]

One day, Nellie Jones said, "I want to work with Father in the amber mine."

"Now, Nellie," said Mrs. Jones, as they turned onto Conch Street in a car, then into their drive-way.  "Your father said, when we got divor-"

"NO!'' Nellie shouted as loud as she could, "DON'T TALK ABOUT THAT!!!"  She jumped out of the car, ran into the house, slammed her bedroom door, threw herself on her bed, and sobbed. Late that night, Nellie packed her suitcase with overalls, a pocketknife, a compass, some pencils, paper, books about the Greek gods, and a Bible.  She grabbed her necklace filled with water from the grotto at Lourdes, climbed out her window down the trellis.  She saw a pair of lights coming up the road.  Nellie quickly ducked.  Under a bush, she fell asleep.  When she awoke, the rain was coming down in torrents.  She ran to the barren park and then got under a table and tried to dry off.  When she got dried off, she read in the Bible about King David's prophecies that talked about Jesus.  Then she started running, jumped over a cleft with a trident in it, and soon got to the mines.

She sat down behind some bushes and got on a pair of overalls, snuck in, and found her dad.  "Nellie!" he said.

"Dad!" Nellie said.  "Guess what?"  Nellie kept talking without stopping.  "I'm learning about oracles and sibyls."

Dad laughed.  "Cool!  But why are you here?"

"Dad," she said, "I want to work with you."

"Okay," he said.  And he carried her off on his shoulders, and they worked together forever, except the mom didn't know where Nellie was until Nellie called her on her dad's cell.

The end.
