Last year, we read two plays by the Bard: "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "The Taming of the Shrew." We are going to dole out parts for "Romeo and Juliet" this week and begin reading that on Saturday. (This was Amanda's request. Next up will be "Hamlet," as requested by Kaitlyn.) We've also watched movies of the plays, and we'll also check out some of the adaptations made. For example, we watched The Quiet Man (John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara) when we finished "The Taming of the Shrew." We'll also watch West Side Story after we read and watch "Romeo and Juliet."
Amanda is preparing for First Holy Communion, and has already received her First Confession and Penance. The parish has three workshops for her that she is required to attend, and I might have her write in this space about the differences between what we do at home (Seton) and what they did at the parish. I hate to downplay the religious education at the parish, but honestly, my girls don't learn much from it. Seton's program is so thorough and deep that the parish materials are like a bit of fluffy icing on a great, big cake. I pray that other parents supplement their children's Sunday school experience, too. They miss so much! (Then again, so did I, and I'm still amazed at how much I learn while teaching religion class to the girls.)
So, look for new writing here from the girls. And soon!
